About Rod Mitchell

Rod Mitchell has been writing tunes for 20 years now after starting out as a lyric poet who played the piano. He teamed up with a guitarist in the 90’s and wrote the words and most of the music for the band, “The Yooskies,” with their strongest songs eventually included in the musical, “Zuleika.” 5 years after the band broke up, he returned to his first love and embarked on a solo career of reciting and recording spoken-word poetry, his second album (“The Ancient Mariner”) filled out with background music and snappy sound effects. His next album, “Cheesecake” in 2008, marked a return to full-blown songwriting for a full band. That was followed in 2009 by “Rose & Thorn,” another album with infectious hooks and thoughtful lyrics. Always looking for the right mood to compliment his tunes, his next album, “Wanderlust,” (2012) involved bluegrass musicians and “Stick With It” (also 2012) was backed by strong artists in the field of jazz and R & B. Rod Mitchell is known to kick up his heels and dance to his own music.
